For Domain or website name, any option of .COM .ORG and .NET can be added as TLD and for actual name or SLD , only letters, numbers, or hyphen ("-") are allowed but it cannot begin or end with a hyphen. Maximum number of characters allowed are 63, not including .COM, .NET, .ORG.
Once a Domain name is registered, an activation notice will be sent you via e-mail with a user id and password. It is updated with Internic and other ISPs (worldwide) within 72 hours of registration.
As the domain name is updated with its name servers (servers on which your web files are stored), another FTP username and password is provided to upload files to site.
If the name servers are the same as the time of registration, website is activated immediately after uploading of files otherwise if the name servers are changed, it takes another 24 to 48 hours for website activation.
